Lawyers are swamped (accord\u00ading to the NYT arti\u00adcle<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/04\/10\/technology\/ai-is-coming-for-lawyers-again.html\"> \u201cA.I. Is Com\u00ading for Lawyers, Again<\/a>\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) so hav\u00ading an AI comb through that con\u00adtract, red\u00adline improp\u00ader lan\u00adguage, and iden\u00adti\u00adfy unap\u00adproved claus\u00ades could be the future we\u2019re look\u00ading at. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rea\u00adson the pub\u00adlic has been see\u00ading so much AI con\u00adtent just now is because last Novem\u00adber, Ope\u00adnAI put out a pub\u00adlic inter\u00adface of AI called Chat\u00adG\u00adPT, which is also tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy involved in AI legal com\u00adpa\u00adnies. <a href=\"https:\/\/molawyersmedia.com\/2023\/04\/12\/ai-poised-to-disrupt-the-law-in-ways-we-can-and-cant-imagine\/\">Mis\u00adsouri Lawyers Media<\/a> wrote about what these essen\u00adtial\u00adly are: \u201cA large lan\u00adguage mod\u00adel is a com\u00adput\u00ader pro\u00adgram that has been trained on a vast amount of text data to under\u00adstand the rules and pat\u00adterns of lan\u00adguage.\u201d Like a per\u00adson, the GPT\u20114 is tak\u00ading the Bar Exam and pass\u00ading in the 90th per\u00adcentile, some\u00adthing that has been a big deal in recent news for these pro\u00adgrams. This improve\u00adment is unnerv\u00ading with the knowl\u00adedge that it will only improve and at a rate much faster than humans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">How\u00adev\u00ader, what all these sources point out is that tech\u00adnol\u00ado\u00adgy is amaz\u00ading, but not amaz\u00ading enough yet to know what num\u00adbers to cal\u00adcu\u00adlate and what is impor\u00adtant to being a good attor\u00adney. As Pro\u00adfes\u00adsor Lawrence Solum of Uni\u00adver\u00adsi\u00adty of Vir\u00adginia warns us, AI must prove to be reli\u00adable for this grunt work as AI has shown before to be faulty, like when Chat\u00adG\u00adPT <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/technology\/artificial-intelligence-replace-lawyers-two-legal-experts-weigh-in\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">showed Tal\u00adley a case<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that did\u00adn\u2019t exist when asked to find a case with a spe\u00adcial claim. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/generative-ai-courts-law-justice\/\">Jonathan Stern\u00adberg,<\/a> a lawyer in Kansas City, couldn\u2019t get AI to find exam\u00adples of Mis\u00adsouri cas\u00ades he knew exist\u00aded.
