Does Erica Brancato Love Sports Too Much?

I’m Erica Brancato and I am a journalism and communication double major. When I first came to UConn I headed straight toward The Daily Campus to get involved. I wanted to combine my passion for sports and writing and get the best experience I could. From there I’ve been lucky enough to cover the women’s basketball and field hockey national championships, however after experimenting in print for the past few years I know I have to diversify my skills, which brought me to Introduction to Online Journalism.

I am eager to learn how to captivate the reader’s attention in a media driven world and to expand my knowledge of the online journalism field in general. I feel that in order to be a successful journalist you must delve into every area and get the most experience as possible.

In such a fast paced world I stumble upon news rather than actively search for it. In the morning before classes, I have the news or ESPN on in the background to catch up on current events. My phone alerts me with SportsCenter and New York Times updates along with emails and twitter notifications so I am constantly connected. When I’m procrastinating I go on my favorite sites BuzzFeed and ESPN before I force myself to get back to work.

As the sports editor of The Daily Campus, UConn football’s progress is my main interest right now, but I would love to expand my horizons into fashion or photojournalism if the opportunity presents itself.
