H&M Launches New Conscious Collection

A huge trend seen on the runway this season was the embrace of comfort and eco-friendly materials. Now, H&M is launching a denim-specific capsule of their own, which consists of 40 pieces made entirely of denim! Even more important than how cool the collection is, is the environmentally-friendly factor: every garment is created not only with sustainable materials, but also through a manufacturing process that limits energy and water use. The brand collaborated with a sustainable denim company from Spain called Jeanologia to ensure that these practices were held to a high standard. The Jeanologia to ensure that these methods were held to a high standard. The video alone should be enough to convince you that you need this collection in your closet, but if that’s not enough to motivate you then just think about the planet that your shopping is helping to save!

First Lady Michelle Obama to Host Fashion Ed. Workshop

According to WWD, Michelle Obama will be using her ties to the fashion industry to host a Fashion Education Workshop on October 8th! Though many women in the spotlight opt to wear more iconic brands, Michelle Obama has shown time and time again that she is more invested in the next generation of designers. Her decision to wear Jason Wu to the inaugural ball in 2009, for example, helped to promote the brand and took his label to a whole new level. This event will have a similar effect, and bring together industry professionals and up-and-coming designers. It will also allow college aged students with an interest in fashion the opportunity to network, and a decent shot at getting internships!

The Celebrities You May Have Missed at Fashion Week

If this was Fashion Week in 1999, famous celebs would be mobbed by cameras and paparazzi, and designers would pay a lot of money just to have a well known actress or singer grace their front row. Now, in 2014, the press around celebrity Fashion Week appearances has become minimal to say the least. Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, and the cast of Orange is the New Black all made appearances at Lincoln Center earlier this month, and Miley Cyrus even had a jewelry collaboration with Jeremy Scott! Even Whoopi Goldberg made an appearance, which was a definite highlight of the week. Though celebs typically draw a crowd, it seems that Fashion Week is one of few places where they can truly go to escape the tabloids and blend in.

A 1,000 Dollar Face Cream From Outer Space

Beauty companies are constantly trying to top each other, whether by innovation or simply through mass advertisements. However, the Celestial Black Diamond Cream from 111Skin is literally out of this world, and costs about $1000. The cream contains black diamonds which come from space. Or at least that’s the theory… black diamond is extremely rare and found only in Brazil and central Africa. The scientific theory is that it formed as a result of a meteorite hitting the earth billions of years ago. Tying in with the space-oriented theme of the brand, Dr. Yannis Alexandrides founded the company after soviet astronauts asked him to create a topical face repair creme (since cosmic radiation takes quite a toll on the skin).
