Olivia Rayner, a UConn student, painted the rock near North Garage “Save Israel” and paired it with an image of the Israeli flag.

Rayner said she is “a big proponent of First Amendment rights” and is using the rock as a vehicle to express her beliefs as other students have done in the past.
There are three paintable rocks on campus. The rock pictured is titled “The Rock,” and the two others are “Towers Rock” and the “Buckley/Shippee Rock.” All actively enrolled UConn students and student organizations can paint any of the rocks.

Today’s rendition of “The Rock” is a smaller piece of what was once a much larger rock and has been subject to students’ painting since the 1940s, according to UConn Today.
