The UConn Runovers: The rise of a dangerous epidemic on the Storrs Campus

On this specific episode of Cold Cut Elaborations, the host, Cole Stefan, discusses the issue of students at the University of Connecticut getting run over by a car on campus.

Although there have been only three incidents over the last year, one as recently as Labor Day weekend, that is three too many. During the 2021–22 school year alone, there were two incidents resulting in the deaths of a graduate student and an undergraduate student. In addition to describing the incident, the episode discusses the closure of a section of Hillside Road for the fall semester, the impact this closure has on traffic in general, traffic at UConn as a whole and changes coming to the roads on campus in the near future.

Meghan Voisine, a second-year at the University of Connecticut who was majoring in marketing. She died at the age of 20 after being hit by a car in Suffield.
Nhuong Nguyen, a graduate student pursuing his Ph.D. in computer science and engineering. He died at the age of 28 after being hit by a car while crossing the street.

Joining the host on the discussion are UConn journalism students Emily Sharkis, Juliette Grossman-Smisek and Mikhael Thompson, who provide their close calls with cars on campus, why this issue is occurring, and some reactions to the closure of Hillside Road.

Any information from Stephanie Reitz regarding the recent incident at the Storrs campus and future construction projects were collected through interviews by Emily Sharkis.
