Covid has affected all of us over the past 2 and a half years but it may have impacted preschoolers the most. They were born into this pandemic-ridden world and don’t know a time when no one wore masks and when seeing one’s friends and families didn’t make them scared for their lives. They were denied the right to play with kids their age and therefore haven’t developed the social skills that are usually common for their age.
I sat down with Jill Howard, the Education Director for the Children’s Center at the College of Staten Island to talk about what it was like to run a preschool during the different stages of the COVID-19 pandemic and the behavioral changes she’s noticed in recent batches of preschoolers. Also, since Jill’s preschool is run out of a college, she talked about how that changed the COVID guidelines versus if she worked at a privately-owned or even public preschool.
