I’m George Velky, a 2025 graduate studying Journalism and Communications at the University of Connecticut. I grew up in Minnesota, and after my time at UConn, I’m open minded to see where my next chapter will take me.
My aim is to start a career in public relations. At UConn, I am currently an intern at University Communications as a writing and publicity assistant. My responsibilities includ pitching, writing and photographing stories published in UConn Today, the university newsletter. My stories have been shared by the university on its social media accounts, including Instagram and LinkedIn.
I have written promotional stories covering content including but not limited to the UConn Marching band playing at a Patriots game, homecoming events on campus, the prestigious actuarial program and a student run van service for disabled members of the community.
I have experience reaching out to professionals and industry leaders and interviewing them for print, audio, and video content. For example, I interviewed Andrew Niedzielski, the director of the actuarial program at UConn for my story focused on the accomplishments of the program.
I am familiar with professional website formatting using WordPress. Other technical skills I have include AP Style, Adobe Premier Pro and Adobe Audition.
I am a personable and natural leader who thrives in a team environment. I have held numerous positions in Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. These include risk manager, brotherhood chair, scholarship chair, philanthropy committee member and social media committee member.
