Whether you’re in town for a simple day trip or a weekend getaway, these five Newport-famous attractions are ones you won’t want to miss. As someone who’s lived in Newport for two summers now, I’ve come to love every street, shop, and hotspot throughout the city with great familiarity. As difficult as it was to narrow the very best of Newport down to just five places, I truly believe the following will give any tourist the very best experience.

Bannister’s Wharf is just parallel to the hustle and bustle of Thames Street and offers a wholesome shopping experience for the weekend tourist, along with an excellent view of Narragansett Bay. Whether you’re looking for a bite to eat or a comfy sweatshirt for nighttime, downtown Newport has everything and more.
Personal Photo — Jenna Buttrick Totaling a span of 1,601 feet, the Newport Bridge is ranked 80th of the longest bridges on Earth. For just $30 you can enjoy a two hour sail for a spectacular view of the bridge and a history lesson on the rest of Narragansett Bay.

Here you’ll find an outdoor skatepark, a seasonal carousel, and a snack bar where you can order Del’s frozen lemonade and the very best lobster rolls. If you get tired of laying in the sand all day and want to stretch your legs, the famous Cliff Walk is just adjacent to Easton’s.

Located at Fort Adams, a popular park in the heart of Newport, the festival has hosted bands and artists such as James Taylor, Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers. The event brings together a diverse crowd and offers a truly unique experience to each who attends.
Take a stroll along the city’s famous Cliff walk to experience the largest and most extravagant of Newport’s famous mansions. A popular site for weddings and upscale functions, this 70 room, Renaissance-inspired villa now stands as a nationally-recognized historic landmark. Next to an excellent view of the Atlantic Ocean, The Breakers is the most breathtaking sight located alongside the beautiful Cliff Walk. (Flickr Photo by Timothy Valentine)
