Executive Order 14163: “Realigning the United States Refugee Admissions Program”

A guide for new immigrants in the United States to help them settle into American life and provide American civics information. Photo courtesy of DHS.

This order suspended the Refugee Admissions Program, barring any other refugees from entering the U.S., except those who can “fully and appropriately assimilate into the United States.” It claimed that the influx of refugees during the previous administration had put a strain on small towns and caused major cities such as New York City and Chicago to declare states of emergency. This program may be reinstated during a time when refugee entry “aligns with the interests of the United States,” the order said. In a February executive order, Trump restarted the Refugee Resettlement Program to provide South Afrikaners humanitarian relief, admission and resettlement in the U.S.
