Executive Order 14161: “Protecting the United States from Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats”

CBP Officer processes a passenger into the United States at an airport. Photo by James Tourtellotte, courtesy of DHS.

This executive order explains that the federal government will be more stringent while issuing all kinds of visas by establishing “enhanced vetting and screening across agencies.” This screening would apply to both those who have yet to enter the U.S. as well as those already here. The government will also identify nations that the U.S. believes have “deficient” vetting and screening, potentially barring entry of people from those nations.
